The Rotary Club of Hoshiarpur Mid Town, with the support of the Plano Metro Rotary Club (Plano, Texas, USA) has been doing corneal transplants since 2018. The Rotary Club of Hoshiarpur Mid Town saw the need to enlighten the lives of people suffering from corneal disease and started this project which has changed the lives of many people in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pardesh & Utter Pardesh.

As a result of the support from the Plano Metro Rotary Club, the project's scope has increased. The project can now serve many more with a goal of 300 corneal transplants per year from all over India.

Rotary Club Hoshiarpur Midtown has formed a committee to ensure greater awareness of the project by associations with various Rotary Clubs and Hospitals, namely Dr. Shakeen’s Eye & Dental Hospital (Amritsar) & Guru Ka Langar Eye Hospital (Chandigarh). a full time Cornea Transplant Surgeon, Operation Theater, Doctors & related staff.

Mr. Harjeet Singh Sabharwal of Guru Ka Langar Eye Hospital in Chandigarh has provided a full time Cornea Transplant Surgeon, Operation Theater, Doctors & related staff for the project. Mr. Harjeet Sabharwal has a “no cash counter” at the Hospital where not only treatment (including surgery) is free but the medicines are given free as well.

Dr. Shakeen Singh of Dr. Shakeen’s Eye & Dental Hospital, Amritsar has provided his help and expertise as well to support this noble cause. Dr. Shakeen Singh has provided surgery free of cost to these individuals in need.

The corneal transplants that started in Hoshiarpur, Punjab have extended to the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu Kashmir. Having provided sight to more than 2000 corneal blind patients already, the project is working to extend this noble movement to other states with the help of various organizations.
